INFO
Anne U is a Melbourne-based artist specialising in ceramic sculpture and design. Through intuitive experimentation and improvisation, she pushes the technical and aesthetic boundaries of materials, embracing unpredictability as an essential part of her process. Sculpted from a custom blend of clays and aggregates, she develops experimental glazes and conducts multiple firings, allowing alchemical transformations to reveal the final form.
Influenced by surreal and oneiric visions, Anne reflects on abstract memories and the absurdity of dream imagery, allowing subconscious ideas to emerge in intriguingly grotesque yet evocative forms. Designed for adaptability, her work exists in the liminal space between sculpture and furniture, reshaping the relationship between objects and space and inviting new sensory experiences and interactions.
Anne U acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land, on which she lives and works, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung and Bunurong peoples of the Kulin Nation and pays respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging.
